The traditional weaving of "Kilim Bessarabia" rugs probably dates back to the late Ottoman period in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Our model is characterized by a floral composition placed in two symmetrical vases, arranged horizontally with respect to the texture of the carpet. The main flower is the rose and you can feel the influence of the western world, brought by the winemakers who worked for the French producer of Aubusson and Savonerie.

Elio Palmisano’s atelier is one of the few Italian companies (if not the only one) to have created a large number of tapestries and carpets during the second half of the twentieth century, in synergy with contemporary artists. From 1968 to 2005 about Palmisano created a collection of almost 320 subjects, including tapestries and carpets, designed by famous artists and designers, from Giacomo Balla to Ettore Sottsass. Using ancient crafting techniques, Palmisano has really managed to weave the scenario of Italian art of the twentieth century. The manufacture of Elio Palmisano has been much talked about in almost forty years of activity, during which his works were appreciated and enhanced especially by the new world of design.

Tapestry handmade chain stitch with pure wool yarn on cotton canvas. Produced thanks to the availability of the daughters of Giacomo Balla, Luce and Elica, who showed Elio Palmisano the designs for fabrics elaborated by their father, which remained only at the design stage. With the enthusiastic approval of Luce and Elica, Palmisano decided to create those works that remained unfinished. "Fiori + spazio" made in 1968 from a drawing of 1918 is the first of these artifacts made in very few examples, now become part of the history of Italian artistic weaving.

Iconic carpet of the production designed by Zeki Muren, singer and designer much appreciated in the 50s. The decoration and the choice of colors is a clear reference to the leopard coat inserted in a context that recalls the territory in which this feline moves, which also inspired other works of the artist. A decidedly provocative decoration thinking of the Turkish carpets of the 70s and a style that breaks the mold expresses a modernity that is still very current today.

Kilim are rugs produced by tightly weaving the warp and weft threads to create a flat, hairless surface. It’s a typical product of the nomadic and pastoral tradition. Kilim are made in the Balkans as in the highlands of South America, in Sardinia as in Anatolia. The kilim presented comes from Afghanistan and is characterized by the minimalist decoration with a painting that takes advantage of the various natural shades of local wool.
