The main element of the composition is the Mihrab (or Mehrab), which symbolizes the niche covered by an arch and indicates the direction of the temple of Mecca (Quibla) in each mosque. This niche represents the Gate of Paradise and indicating the direction of Mecca, it also indicates in which direction prayer must take place. This decoration is represented in different forms, usually specific to each area of origin.
