This iconic rug was designed by Zeki Muren, a singer and designer who was highly regarded in the 1970s for his artistic talents and the eccentric style that characterized his entire oeuvre. His style and taste influenced the production of rugs made in Sparta between 1960 and 1980, but only a few are actually Muren’s own designs. He often gave his creations a name and incorporated his signature into the weaving, as in the rug we present here. The decidedly eccentric and daring color combinations and the abstract design are an expression of Muren’s playful world. This rug features his signature and the name of the decoration (Bayram Yeri) as part of the design.
