The Spanish Savonnerie style of rugs, born after the French one, owes its flourish in popularity to the many commissions ordered from the Royal House. These large rugs were almost exclusively made to order and their colors and decorations were always meant to be complement a particular room. We like to think that this specific one has once been ordered to adorn the lavish winter garden of an aristocratic residence in Madrid: the tints are intense and the adornment is romantic and refined.
